The Operations Department is integral to the efficient and coordinated functioning of the organization. Its members provide the critical support, tools, and expertise required for FNIH employees to perform their jobs effectively while championing an environment of professional collegiality, teamwork, and collaboration.
The Human Resources Officer works with, and reports to, the Director of Operations, and collaborates with all Operations Department members and others at FNIH, with particular focus on our Research Partnerships and Science departments, to achieve the organization’s goals by recruiting and retaining top talent as a foundation for the organization’s success. The position will have a significant impact in helping the Foundation achieve its strategic intent in a dynamic, post-pandemic environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Human Resources Officer serves as the primary point person for day-to-day HR activities, both internal and external facing, including recruiting and onboarding support, employee engagement, HR and benefits compliance and recordkeeping.
Human Resources Operations

Provides a high level of customer service, responding in a timely and accurate manner to internal stakeholders and external parties (e.g., applicants and vendors) on HR and benefits related requests, questions, and concerns, and directing those of greater complexity or need to the Director of Operations.
Support and champion HR-focused equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) activities, including development and implementation of policies and procedures to support and bolster FNIH’s commitment to creating a workplace that exemplifies its EDI values.
Support hiring managers and search committees with recruiting activities, including drafting and updating position descriptions and job ads, resume review, screening interviews, liaising with recruiting firms, and assisting interview teams with related activities.
Prepare and process employment actions to execute and/or update employment records for new hires and existing employees, promotions and salary changes, onboarding, terminations and off-boarding, employment verifications, etc.
Assist with annual performance review process at FNIH, including updating and refining processes, answering questions, as well as training on procedures and best practices.
Assist Director of Operations and SVP of Operations & Legal Affairs (General Counsel) with Employee Handbook & Office Operating Plan updates, as needed. Maintain an up-to-date FNIH organizational chart and office seating chart.

Compliance and Reporting

Working in close coordination with the FNIH legal team, ensure various HR reporting and audit requirements are completed, including state registration and EEO-1 reports.
Ensures compliance with applicable employment laws, regulations, and internal FNIH policies. May involve liaising with HR counsel to resolve complicated issues and questions.
Responds to and tracks responses to state unemployment claims.
Under the oversight of the Director of Operations, conducts audits and policy reviews to evaluate effectiveness of current HR policies, practices, and procedures; develops policies, and makes recommendations to improve and change policies and evaluates results.

Project Support and Strategy Implementation

Champion employee-centered HR strategic design and implementation, working in close collaboration with leadership throughout FNIH.
Assist in eventual HRIS design, training and system launch.
Act as key strategy implementation partner for all Human Resources projects, programs, processes, and policies. Activities to support projects may include scheduling meetings, drafting minutes and meeting summary documents, preparing presentations, and coordination with project team participants.
